The electrocardiogram (ECG) test helps determine the heart’s rhythm and pace. To get a complete picture of how your pet’s heart is performing, our veterinarian may need to combine the results of an ECG with those of blood tests, x-rays, and even cardiac ultrasounds.

Electrocardiography is the process of measuring heart rate and rhythm using an electrocardiograph machine, and the result is an electrocardiogram (ECG). An electrocardiogram is quick and painless, lasting only a few minutes. The heart receives electrical signals from the body, which promotes regular heartbeat rhythm and tempo. An electrocardiograph can detect and record electrical changes caused by a heartbeat. Then, our veterinarian can use this information to calculate your pet’s heart rhythm and rate and determine if any issues need attention or further testing.
